After Kevin and I spoke on the phone and met in person, I was able to learn more about his background. The reason I offered to introduce him to the principal is because of his acting and singing background. The cram school (I introduced him to ) focuses on acting and singing for children and the principal was excited to receive his CV and was even more to interview him. After our group interview (him, the principal, and myself), he was offered an internship and a job. So, I was super excited for him!
The thing I realized after writing this article is although Blacks/Africans living in Japan know how to ‘get’ jobs and seek opportunities (in Japan). In contrast, those (Blacks) outside of the Japan seem to be oblivious to the opportunities here. Kevin even stated that when he went to several Black platforms to seek jobs that he was not able to connect with other Blacks. He even stated the ones he did connect with were not ‘really’ willing to help him locate jobs.
I understand that we (workers) in Japan are busy but it is surprising that some people could not even give Kevin some websites to locate jobs. Normally, I charge for my services but that fact that Kevin came to Japan to seek opportunities, but did not know to execute his plan really impressed. I think it’s important that Blacks in Japan have businesses here and/or a community that we can help others locate jobs more easily. Anyways, we can speak more about that in another post. Happy learning!!!
